Day 1 – Monday, December 5 – Depart for beautiful Newport, Rhode Island. Upon arrival, check into your hotel the Holiday Inn in Middletown, RI. Dinner is included at a local restaurant.
Day 2 – Tuesday, December 6 – Breakfast is included at your hotel. This morning, meet your local guide and depart on a guided tour of Newport to include picturesque Ocean Drive. This afternoon, tour a magnificent mansion decked out in yuletide finery. Dining tables set with period silver and china and mannequins dressed in authentic costumes complete the elegant setting. Thousands of poinsettias, spectacular evergreens, decorated wreaths, and 19th century style ornaments turn the mansion and its grounds into a Christmas wonderland. Dinner is included at a local restaurant tonight.
Day 3 – Wednesday, December 7 – Breakfast is included at your hotel. This morning, visit another decorated mansion. This afternoon, enjoy a re-creation of a Newport Cotillion at the Newport Art Museum. Music will be provided by local musicians as you enjoy dancing a waltz and then learn easy-to-follow steps for a contra dance. Mrs. Astor will serve you tea and cookies, in the tradition of a socialite’s afternoon, and will give a talk on the Gilded Age. Dinner is included at your hotel this evening.
Day 4 – Thursday, December 8 – Breakfast is included at your hotel before departing for home.
