The novel The House of the Seven Gables revolves around the curse Matthew Maule set on Colonel Pyncheon in revenge for stealing his land--and his life. Through a century and a half, the curse affects the members of both families, and is embodied in the big crumbling mansion that is the House of the Seven Gables.  The remainder of the day is at your leisure enjoying all the Halloween activities going on in Salem.  Visit a museum, take a walking tour; get your fortune told by a psychic or shop for some souvenirs from the many street vendors.  You are sure to leave Salem in good “spirits.”
